Auto buying can be a pleasure and a pain. People claim to have spent up to six hours closing a deal and finally driving away from a dealership. However, with the heavy inflation of prices, it often feels like your driving away with only half of the item you felt you were upsold on, and paid for.
Even auctions have their secrets. Often the bidding will get over excited in an auction and the item will end up overpriced for what you're actually getting.
However, there are auction centers around the States known as "hidden auctions" because of how protected they are (forgive me for making this sound like Area 51). They are government, federal, police and bank auto aucitons, and they control the influx of reposessed vehicles.
Vehicles get reposessed in large quantities due to people not being able to make car payments or seized due to criminal activity, sometimes, almost brand new or with very few miles.
Because of the cost to store the vehicles, the authorities have to auction them off in a hurry to gain back at least some of the expense. This means the people who know about these auctions have boasted getting new, clean title BMWs for less than 5k.
Several websites have jumped on the bandwagon of offering the public access to these protected sources.
The main benefit is the bidding competition - very slim and often non-existant. This has meant car dealers have been able to buy from these sources at rock bottom prices and then sell for up to a %90 profit.
Think about it - clean title, low miles, perfect condition, buy for $8,000 sell for book value at $27,000.
As more and more people discover these sources so they can use the same method to get a bargain, and car payments keep going unpaid, car dealerships will need to think about their pricing.
These auctions aren't advertized on a large scale, probably due to the effect it could have on the motor companies if the masses begin using hidden auctions.
