You pull a stack of letters out of the mailbox. You sort through them, one white envelope after another, over and over again. All you see are the names. One of them is for a company you’ve never heard of. You hold in your hands, you know, an advertisement of some kind. How often do you open them? When all you have to go on is the name of a company and a white envelope, how encouraged are you to even bother giving it a chance?

Is the name of your company alone enough to make people willing to stop and see what you have to say? Maybe if you’re Microsoft, or perhaps Wal-Mart, people will decide to give it a shot and read what you’ve sent. After all, they already know your company enough to be comfortable that they’ll be pleased with what they see. But how many of us own a company like Wal-Mart?

Don’t just give people a white envelope with your name in the middle of it. Give them something different, something colorful, unique, striking to look at and quick to be remembered. Postcard marketing is the best way of grabbing a person’s attention. You don’t have to worry about that boring envelope anymore. Your message, by default, is out in the open for people to see.

Unlike normal letters, marketing with postcards can save you just as much money as it gains you business. Your goal is to make sure when people are sorting through those envelopes they’ll pause on yours. There’s already plenty going for you by making the marketing jump into postcards. Simply being a different size from the rest will ensure people will take notice, and when you splash a distinctive and bright picture or logo across the front of it, anyone will take a few minutes aside to take it in. The more vivid the image you have to offer the better the odds they’ll not only stare but also be happy to. Whatever you’ve written with the image, whatever message you’re trying to get across, will have a much better chance now that they’ve given you their undivided attention.

The trickiest thing about sending anything through the mail is being comfortable that people will bother to look at it. You can’t just walk up to them and know they’re paying attention to you. Next time you’re sorting through your own mail, just stop to think about what you’re skipping over and what you’re willing to give a little more attention. A white envelope doesn’t cry out to be noticed, but a colorful enough postcard is a guaranteed eye grabber.
