Careers Employment article : Your Goal for 2006: Escape From The Last Legalized Form Of Slavery-Employment

Think 2005 was tumultuous?

You haven’t seen anything yet!

Wait until 2006 comes roaring in.

Are you really ready for 2006? Ready to be self-employed, that is?

That’s the traditional way to make a living all through history except the Industrial Revolution, which has ended.

Corporate icons are toppling daily, massive job terminations and pension defaults are commonplace, globalism is in full swing.

There’s never been a better time to be self-employed or a worse time to be employed.

Airlines are experiencing turbulence financially. GM & Ford are racing toward bankruptcy. Jobs are targeted for rightsizing, downsizing, and outsourcing.

If you take a new job today, in four years, on average, you’ll be jobless again. So much for job security in the 21st Century!

You should be self-employed. Employment is the last legalized form of slavery in America. Free people need to be set free from all bondages, including employment.

To succeed in the present and future, you can’t live in the past. Majority employment is rapidly ending. About 15 years from now, we believe that fewer than 20% of Americans will still earn a living from jobs.

Just as you have to “let go” of a dysfunctional personal relationship, you have to let go of the outdated perception of employment as secure, viable and valid.

The Internet and inexpensive international phone service, as well as area free trade agreements, have flattened the world, making it a global playing field, observes author Thomas L. Friedman.

The United States, India, and China will be the world’s three superpowers by 2050, says BusinessWeek Magazine.

We can’t compete with Chinese and Indian workers on low wages. Americans don’t want to work in factories for up to 88 cents per hour (China’s payscale). Americans don’t want to earn $275 monthly as telemarketers (India’s payscale).

And millions of new jobs will NOT be created in America-—no matter what lies politicians and union leaders offer to gather votes, including untruthful statements that leftist candidates, if elected to office, can create “good” (meaning high paying) jobs.

Politicians do not create jobs, businesses do. Actually, American businesses need far fewer and less expensive workers, thanks to advances in technology and offshore outsourcing opportunities.

Therefore, you have to take charge of your own life and career.

Set yourself free in 2006 from the slavery of employment.

As a self-employed person, what you offer-—tangible or intangible—-must provide the buyer excellent value. The more value you offer, the more people buy and the more money you make. It's all about creating and offering value!

Let 2006 be the year you can say, “free at last, free at last, I’m free at last.”

John J. Alquist, along with his wife Shirley, owns and operates Alquist Enterprises, a firm advancing self-employment. John is a business consultant, speaker, and writer. He and is wife also own two network marketing distributorships.
