When a close friend or family member passes away it is never easy to decide how best to celebrate their life.

After the emotion of the funeral a suitable respectful venue needs to be found for celebrating the life passed on. Often there is a large group of people wishing to pay their respects and you may even want to scatter ashes.

A solution which you may want to consider is a private Thames boat charter. Although the River Thames in London has many disco cruise boats, Thames sightseeing boats and London Party Boats for hire which may not be suitable there are a selection of elegant luxury Thames river boats which would be suitable for such an occasion.

Boats such as the Elizabethan, a replica paddle steamer, have been chartered in the past for wakes and the scattering of ashes, celebrating the life of a close friend or loved one. A live jazz band playing a favourite set, a hot and cold buffet or maybe a barbecue in the summer and drinks circulated by smartly uniformed staff will create an appropriate semi-formal, sombre, but celebratory atmosphere.

Generally funerals are held mid-week during the daytime which means a subsequent charter would be within the lowest rate period and at a minimum 3 hr charter charge rather than the 4hrs minimum in the evening and at weekends. This can make a significant difference to the coverall costs and make what may seem out of reach affordable. It may even be worth asking for a bit of a deal as generally early in the week and daytimes are times when the crews are in, but the boats are not often out.

For those with a river or water connection a popular option is to charter a smaller vessel for a group of up to 50 to scatter ashes. For example the Thames Swift can be chartered by the hour and has a large open rear deck area as well as a cabin for shelter if the weather is being typically British!

Whichever option you choose you are assured of a suitable atmosphere and a memorable send off for your friends, family and closest loved ones.
