A laptop is also referred to as a notebook or a notepad. It is the portable form of a computer and is designed in flip form. The weight and the look of the laptop vary according to the innovations included by the makers. The laptop has similar components as those of a desktop computer but the components are sizably reduced to fit the compactness of the laptop.

The laptops use in-built keyboards and also come with an integrated touchpad which acts as a mouse. Usually slots are also provided to attach an external mouse. They have their interpolated speakers usually on the sides of the diagonal screen of the laptop. They also provide a CD or DVD slot below the keyboard. Laptops are slowly being replaced for the desktop computers because of their size and same performance abilities. Laptops usually have a battery charge backup of around 3 hours and the charge is recharged through the external AC/DC adapter. The external supply charger can be used while using the laptop as it supplies the power and also charges the battery.

Laptops use hard disks smaller than those used in the desktop computers and hence provide lowered performance. Now innovations have been made and FLASH memories are being used in laptops to provide ample storage space without using the space, thus adding to the compactness of the laptop. It is

generally difficult to upgrade a laptop as it has its own size and compatibility constraints. Laptops use LCD (Liquid crystal display) screen to provide a better viewing and image resolution. The size of the LCD screen varies with the size of the laptop usually it is about 16-17 inches but now laptops also offer 20 inch screens which in turn increase the size and thus the bulkiness of the laptop.

Laptops are portable but in turn are also delicate. If a laptop falls the LCD screen could be damaged and it could hamper the look of the laptop or even the flip could be damaged. The battery and the hard disk are also delicate and should be handled carefully. If some liquid spills over the keyboard of the laptop it could well damage the motherboard. Due to all these delicate features care should be taken while using the laptop. Laptops can be used in Wi-Fi areas and can run on backup battery unlike the Desktop computers. There are a range of laptops are in the market, even you can buy cheap laptops at the market. Style in the laptop has also been their selling point. With emphasis laid on the looks, built-up and colour, the laptops are increasingly becoming popular and are therefore grabbing the place of desktops.
