A Dish Network DVR is a device that records television programs onto a hard disk drive in digital format for later viewing. DVRs give the freedom for you to record, pause, rewind, and fast forward television shows as you please. However, there are many different models available with different features and capabilities. What exactly are the differences between all the different models of Dish Network DVRs? Here is a quick and basic overview of some of the different Dish Network DVR models and what they have to offer.

1) DISH Player-DVR 510. The DVR 510 has the standard video on demand services which gives you more control of your viewing. This feature allows you to pause live TV, skip recorded commercials, create instant replays, and much more. It has the ability to fast forward and rewind in four speeds (4x, 15x, 30x, 300x). You can also skip forward up to 30 seconds and skip backward up to 10 seconds. There is a one-touch record management feature and the option to use the manual or automatic record timers. The DVR 510 also gives you easy access to the Extended Electronic Program Guide that lets you view up to nine days of programming and allows you to search by names, subjects, or actors (all stored onto the hard drive). This Dish Network DVR has a 120 GB hard drive integrated into the satellite receiver. It has the ability to record up to 100 hours of 100% digital programming.

2) DISH Player-DVR 522. Along with all the features that the DVR 510 has, the DVR 522 has two satellite tuners in one. This dual tuner gives you the power to record two programs simultaneously, watch a live program while recording another, or even watch a pre-recorded program while recording two live programs. It also has custom program controls (parental locks, program information, picture-in-guide view, OnDemand Weather, favorite lists, and much more). In addition, this Dish Network DVR comes with 2 platinum plus remotes and had Picture-In-Picture (PIP) capabilities.

3) HDTV DVR 921. The HDTV DVR 921 model has all of the standard DVR features plus high definition technology. Like the DVR 522, the HDTV DVR 921 is a dual-tuner satellite system. However, in addition to the standard-definition (SD) capabilities, the 921 has the capacity to record and receive high-definition HD) television programming directly from Dish Network as well as from off-air digital broadcasts. There is 180 hours of SD recording, 25 hours of HD recording, or any combination of the two. This Dish Network DVR has a 250 GB hard drive and comes with a UHF Pro 4-component universal remote control.

4) HDTV DVR 942. The DVR 942 model has all of the feature that all the other Dish Network DVRs have to offer and more. The HDTV DVR 942 is the first in the industry to offer both combined high-definition and standard definition two-tuner satellite receiver with multiple-room viewing capabilities. This means that you can join two or more televisions and still enjoy high-definition programming. This Dish Network DVR has a 250 GB hard drive and the most advanced high definition Digital Recording Technology. In addition, the HDTV DVR 942 comes with 1 UHF and 1 infrared 4-component universal remote control.

As you can see, there are many Dish Network DVR products to choose from. Each DVR has different features to match the needs of a particular consumer. As for which DVR is right for you, it depends what features are important to you and how much you are willing to spend. My recommendation would be the DISH-Player DVR 522. Unless you are set on being able to record high-definition programming, this DVR is a good deal with its dual tuner and custom program controls. No matter which model you pick, every Dish Network DVR will give you greater control of your TV viewing.
