What to Avoid Eating if You Have Kidney Stones

Some elements in foods can increase the risk of kidney stone formation. For example, oxalate, especially as found in spinach, rhubarb, beet greens, nuts, chocolate, tea, bran almonds, peanuts, and strawberries, and these foods can significantly increase urinary oxalate levels which in turn can lead to kidney stones. Urinary calcium, another rick factor for kidney stones, can be increased with consumption of animal protein from meat, dairy, poultry, and fish. Vegetarians are reported to be at lower risk for kidney stones as animal protein as been linked to the formation of kidney stones. Some researchers and doctors have therefore come to believe that those with kidney stone problems should restrict consumption of foods high in animal protein.

Kidney stone vitamin supplements

IP-6 (phytic acid) reduces urinary calcium and may therefore help reduce kidney stone risk. In one trial, 120 mg per day of IP-6 for 15 days significantly reduced the formation of calcium oxalate crystals in the urine of people with a history of kidney stone formation. When calcium is taken in supplement form or consumed through foods, it can help prevent kidney stones as it binds to oxate in the gut to interfere with the absorption of oxalate. If oxalate cannot be absorbed it will therefore not be excreted in urine. Therefore, the level of urinary oxalate is reduced, therefore reducing the risk of kidney stones.

Drink water and wait, Simple Treatment is Best

Normally, kidney stones pass through the body without any special treatment. After improving your diet you should also drink plenty of water to treat kidney stones. By drinking a lot of water, you will be able to pass future kidney stones with minimal discomfort.
