The origins of why people shave is disputed. People shave for many reasons, but most often because it is what is socially expected. There is no medical evidence that shaving is necessary, but many would agree it is a matter of comfort. For those in sports, like swimming, it is known to help their performance. Choosing a razor is a very personal decision. What works for one person may not work for another. You should chose a razor that you like. You may have to try a few different types of razors before you find the one that works best for you. There are three main kinds of razors. They are:

Disposable - one use razors that are thrown away

Electric - can be battery powered or use a cord, the blades are replaced as needed, they usually last thrown many uses

Disposable blades - have a handle that you keep, but blades that are thrown away when needed You may want to talk to your doctor or friends to see what they recommend.

You want to look for good quality and try not to focus on price. With razors you really do

get what you pay for. Buying cheap may not always be the answer because you may end up using three of the cheap razors in the same time you would have used one of the more expensive razors.

Buying high quality also ensures the blades are in good shape and reduce the chances of cuts, razor burn or other irritation. You can get razors with special features like pop- up trimmers. The choice is up to you based upon your needs and experience.

Some basic tips for shaving will help you get the most from your new razor.

-Soften your skin by taking a warm bath or shower before shaving.
-Use a cream or gel to help you shave more smoothly.
-Take your time.
-Use a shape razor blade to reduce irritation or cuts.
-Shave as often as you desire. There is no set time table of how often you should shave.
