Sometimes it seems like you just cannot get off of the couch. Or out of the bed. Not wanting to move, not going to move. There’s nothing that you want to do. So what are you, the significant other, watching this lethargy, to do? Obviously, you cannot drag your boyfriend or girlfriend out of bed. You need to let them move on their own.
However, you can encourage them to move. The trick is not so much to use bribes as it is to use encouragement. Encourage them to get going by talking about the fun that is to be had, the moods that are to be lightened. You should also stress the ability of the person to get out, that it is important to leave
the house.
By leaving the house, even if they are reluctant, they will get the interaction and energy that they need. So how do you do it? If the encouragement doesn’t work, then the best idea is to simply schedule an event. Make the plans and present them with fait accompli. Inform them of where you are going as a couple, and take them out. Have fun with them, and be ready to do it again. Make the decisions if your partner seems unwilling to do it. Give them a good time, but make sure it is an activity that you will enjoy as well. If you both have fun, it will be easier to do it again.
