Losing your hair can be a frustrating and devastating circumstance that leads to an endless cycle of searching for the right hair care products, the right hair styles, and eventually the right hair piece. Which got me to wondering, “how can you protect your hair from those things that cause hair loss?”
Hair loss can be caused by heredity, medical treatments (drugs or surgery), stress, or hormonal problems. On the surface, none of these seem preventable, but there is something that can help, eating in a nutritionally sound manner. Our hair growth is directly linked to what nutrients we take in. Here are a few foods you can eat that may improve the health of your hair:
1. Salmon: the essential
Omega-3 fatty acids found in salmon are necessary to support a healthy scalp;
2. Legumes: legumes contain biotin, iron, zinc, and protein, each of which promote hair growth;
3. Dark green vegetables: the vitamin A and C found in dark green vegetables produce sebum, which acts as a natural conditioner for our hair;
4. Eggs: the protein found in eggs is essential to healthy hair; and
5. Whole grains: whole grains provide the hair with zinc, iron, and B vitamins which aid in the growth of healthy hair.
Do your hair a favor, eat the right foods. You will find that your hair is healthier and you may just lose a couple of pounds in the process.
