Cocaine is a powerful drug that stimulates the brain. People who use it can form a strong addiction. They may have to use more and more of the drug to get high.
…I Should Have Never Tried It…
Johnny is a typical student who considers himself as a victim of peer pressure that led him to cocaine addiction. “My life’s a mess; mom and dad separated a year before I entered the university. Fitting in is never that simple, it was easier said than done. I met this certain group, and they’re all members of a band. I always wanted to be in a band too, so I tried to get along. They accepted me without any hesitance, from then on I got so inclined to the stuffs they do like smoking, drinking and other crazy stuffs. They insisted that every band member should take cocaine, according to them it was the secret weapon that keeps them alive all through out the night. I hesitated. But the pressure, I could not handle it anymore so I gave in. It was one thing that I would regret for the rest of my life. I got into it, and now I don’t know how to get out of it! Without it I feel incomplete! I only got my friends and cocaine, nothing left.”
It’s frustrating to know that a lot of people like Johnny are hooked into cocaine. Many teenage are experiencing the same problem but in different situations. If your friend, your brother or sister is in the same abyss, be a helping hand.
How Do I Help?
Adolescence can be a
volatile time of life. Young people's physical and emotional states are in flux. They live in a society that places demands on them to "grow up fast”. Teenagers are more vulnerable to getting addicted to alcohol and illegal drugs. This is the stage of exploration; they tend to incline into things which they have never tried.
Here are some things you can do to help Cocaine addicted teenagers and how others may avoid it:
• Be a good example.
• Parents should communicate more with their teenagers. Through communication, things are sorted out and problems are resolved without giving the teenager a choice to incline with cocaine and other illegal drugs.
• Encourage wide interests and activities. Teenagers are always on the go, they love this stage of exploration. Lead them to worthwhile activities that they’ll enjoy.
• In cases like depression and other unfavourable events, console them and give advice. People in struggle need somebody that would listen and console them.
• Parents need to be firm yet fair regarding limitations and boundaries.
• Cocaine dependent person should be recommended on a rehabilitation centre or recovery programs. This is the best way for them to get rid of their addiction. They should be given enough support to help them get through it.
