Auto Accidents

Even the best drivers can fall prey to an auto accident. If you have been in one, you more than likely suffer from whiplash and possibly knee pain, low back pain, and mid-back pain.

Trauma that your body endures during an accident is likened to if you were running that same speed and then came to a sudden stop (like hitting a wall). So imagine if you were running 15 mph and then hit your body against the wall. This would cause major trauma to your entire body. Since you are buckled into a car, your body does not take much impact but your neck does.

When your neck is "whipped" back in forth in an auto accident it can cause your ligaments and muscles to overstretch and possibly tear. These small tears (microtears) heal with what's call scar tissue. When the scar tissue forms, your muscles and ligaments are shorter and usually produce pain. The pain you may experience may include the following: headaches (espeically behind the eyes); neck pain and tension; jaw pain (TMJ syndrome); shoulder pain; and mid-back pain.

"In the Woodward study, 93% of the 28 patients studied retrospectively were found to have a statistically significant improvement following chiropractic care.1 Chiropractic care in this study consisted of spinal manipulation, PNF and cryotherapy. Most of the 28 patients had prior treatment with NSAIDs, soft collars and physiotherapy. The average length of time before the patients began chiropractic care was 15.5 months post-MVA (range of 3-44 months).

This study clearly documented what most DCs experience in clinical practice: that chiropractic care is an effective modality for patients injured in a motor vehicle accident. Symptoms ranging from headaches to neck pain, back pain, interscapular pain and related extremity pain with parasthesias all respond to quality chiropractic care." http://www.chiroweb.com/archives/17/24/03.html

Treatment

Treatment of your whiplash injury is critical. You need to find a chiropractor who cannot only adjust the areas of the spine that become restricted, but you need someone who specializes in soft tissue treatment to remove the scar tissue. Dr. Dingsor has been trained in two excellent soft tissue techniques (Active Release Technique and SASTM) that have been proven to reduce the scar tissue and your pain.

After your pain has been reduced and your joints are demonstrating good mobility, Dr. Dingsor prescribes specific rehab to help strengthen the damaged regions of your neck, mid-back, and shoulder.

Dr. Bryan Dingsor is the owner of Watertown Chiropractic P.C. in Watertown, SD. He specializes in the treatment of many musculoskeletal conditions and weight loss. For an appointment, please call 605-882-2304 Today. Or go to http://www.watertownchiropractic.com for more information.
