If you're really stressed out, I would suggest learning how to meditate.
It's extremely relaxing and probably the best way to get rid of stress. It doesn't take much time, and you can do it before you go to sleep.
I'll give you some steps to follow:
1. Make sure to sit comfortably. Move back and forth, until you feel good (you may lay down if you would like to do that instead. Just make sure that you don't fall asleep).
2. Close your eyes, and breath normally. Relax as much as possible.
3. Now try to breath slower and deeper. This should already make you more relaxed.
4. Focus on your breath. Listen to it, and feel how your chest is moving up and down.
5. This is optional, but really helps to focus: Count everytime you breathe. Count to ten, and then
start over with one. If you count to eleven, you know that you're really relaxed.
6. After about ten minutes, you can try breathing patterns like this: Breathe in, pause and count to five, then breathe out. Keep on relaxing as much as possible.
7. Keep on doing this for as long as you want. If you can focus for half an hour that's really good.
I think this a really basic meditation. Nothing complicated, but it's really effective, though. After a lot of practise with this meditation, you could probably combine it with visualization, which would be really powerful. Of course you would want to try different breathing patterns, like pausing after you breathe out instead of when you beathe in. Or after both.
