It is a good idea to gather as much information as you can about migraine if you are prone to these attacks. The more knowledge you have the easier it will be to understand what is causing the pain and this in turn will make it easier to manage it.
The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke is constantly doing research to get a better understanding of the disease and to improve on treatment. It is a good thing to know that there is ongoing research to find out more about this disease. Only by doing research will they eventually be able to come up with a proper diagnosis and the best cures for sufferers.
Prevention is always better than cure. As soon as you feel the first symptom of an oncoming attack, take a painkiller. This will prevent the pain from becoming too severe later on.
Get your doctor to prescribe an anti migraine drug. This will prevent migraine altogether or it will prevent the pain becoming too intense later on. Once migraine has set in it will take its course and it will be very difficult to break the
pattern of pain later on.
It can be very helpful to take aspirin or paracetamol or similar painkillers and rest in a darkened room until you feel the symptoms subside. A quiet darkened room does a lot to ease the throbbing. Apply a cold compress to the head. This can also be very advantageous to relieve the throbbing pain.
A relaxing bath or shower can also prove to be advantageous to de stress yourself.
Swimming or taking regular walks also tend to reduce the frequency of attacks. This comes back to regular exercise and living a healthy lifestyle.
If you normally suffer from nausea along with all the other symptoms it would be a good idea to get a drug from your doctor that would counteract both symptoms at the same time.
If you are a frequent sufferer it might be a good idea to get your general practitioner to prescribe something for you that will give you relief before the headache becomes too bad. Many people believe in just laying in a darkened room and waiting until the symptoms wear off. This could take very long in certain instances.
