If you are considering Drug or Alcohol Rehabilitation Treatment, doing some homework can also be a step in the right direction. Any treatment program starts with the first step. Realizing that there is a problem, one that has control of your life, one you can't break free of without help, one that has the potential to take your life from you, either in part or completely. If this is your point of being, or of someone you love, just remember you are not alone in all of this.
Drug and alcohol treatment is needed by as many as 20 million Americans at any given time according to some figures and the rest of the statistics are even more alarming. Only about 5 percent or about 1 million people will be enrolled in a drug treatment program at any given time and the relapse rate is staggeringly high for that 5%. Recovery is an imperfect science at best, creating a giant chasm full of professional opinions on how to best treat addictions.
The biggest problem to over come in effective coordinated Drug Rehabilitation Treatment programs is that each person seeking treatment has special individual needs that have to be addressed in formulating an effective drug treatment plan. No single plan is effective for everyone, and most treatment centers and service programs have altered practices to accommodate this concept. Because a person has a dependency problem with drugs or alcohol does not diminish the fact that they are in need of quality help, just as any other person with any number of diseases need quality professional help and treatment for their affliction.
Drug or alcohol addiction is a very complex or multifaceted disorder that encompasses the entire individual and all of those aspects must be taken into consideration when formulating an effective Drug rehabilitation Treatment plan. Things that need to be addressed are the person’s use of drugs and or alcohol of course, but beyond that the person’s social, medical, financial, and psychological status need to all be considered. With that said, it needs to be pointed out that none of the above should be a limiting factor in the quality of treatment that a person is able to receive, but in our society today, sadly many of them do in fact limit the quality of effective treatment for a wide array of social and economic reasons. But more and more every day, effective Drug Rehabilitation Treatment is becoming more readily accessible to everyone who has a genuine need.
So what is the most effective type of Drug Rehabilitation Treatment? As was stated before no plan is perfect but most experts in rehabilitation treatment all agree that the first step is Detoxification. This can be the most stressful and potentially dangerous aspect any treatment program, and should be monitored by highly qualified professionals at all times during the process. The detoxification can last from between 3 to 7
days or as long as several months depending on the person and the type of substance being withdrawn from. But detoxification will do little on its own; it is only the first step, one of many, that most agree on in the Drug Rehabilitation process.
Even within the Detoxification process opinions vary as to how to conduct it. Many argue that Medications such as LAAM, Methadone and Suboxone are helpful in breaking the cycle of dependency, and in other circles they are ill regarded as no better then the illicit drugs that they are meant to intercede for and that they send the wrong signals in respect to a positive Drug Rehabilitation treatment program.
Beyond Detoxification, most programs include varying aspects of education, counseling, new lifestyle training, and introduction to social activities. Some of these services will be dispensed through residential treatment, day care and outpatient Drug Rehabilitation Treatment programs, others programs will facilitate in house treatment for 30,60,90 days or longer.
It was long thought that forced court ordered or intervention type treatment was less effective then treatment for those that came to the realization of need on their own. New studies have shown that this is not the case. The studies have shown that over all, intervention can be just as effective as voluntary treatment if conducted within well established guide lines. So regardless on how a person enters into a Drug Rehabilitation Treatment Program, chances are very good that help and healing can be achieved.
Over all, the decision to even begin a Drug Rehabilitation treatment program is the most positive thing to be done. Bringing to light those things that we would much rather be kept secret because of our guilt or denial, or fear, is the best step on the way to healing.
