The sauna consists of an insulated room which is heated to 80 - 100 degrees Celsius (176 - 212 Fahrenheit) using rocks heated by, preferably, wood. In less traditional sauna, electricity and gas may also be used. It is designed for nude bathing, in hot air while hot moisture from heated water is thrown on the rocks.
While the traditional sauna released steam to heat the environment of the cabin, the infrared sauna heats the body instead of the air. Scientific reports have also shown that infrared heat is equivalent to some form of cardiovascular exercise without the physical workout. Hence, infrared sauna is sometimes the preferred type of sauna for many people. Imagine losing cholesterol without needing to go for physical workout.
An electric sauna heater is definitely easier to maintain compared to a wood burning heater. A maintenance-free sauna may be a better choice for you depending on your preference.
