The use of drugs is not always recommended unless the pain becomes unbearable. If it is possible it will be far better to control what is causing the migraine and in this way minimise the amount of attacks you have.
By taking a shower or bath and bathing your head can bring many people relief.
Resting in a dark room where everything is quiet is also very advantageous.
Although caffeine is said to be a culprit for causing migraine a cup of coffee right at the beginning stages of the headache could help ward it off.
There are times of course that the pain can become too much to bear and one will grab at any straw to get relief. When the headache starts it is advisable then to immediately take aspirin or paracetomol to break the pattern of pain.
Drug treatment can either prevent the attack or alleviate the symptoms once they have already started.
Delaying this can cause the headache to last longer as once the pain has set in it is very difficult to break the pattern. The headache could last for hours or days.
During an attack the emptying of the stomach slows down and this results in the patient suffering from nausea and vomiting. Here aspirin combined with caffeine can be very effective.
There are many severe drugs on the market and should be taken with discretion. Only take drugs that you have discussed with your medical practitioner.
There are many other drugs among them being narcotic pain killers which will provide relief but do have unpleasant side effects.
Take them under supervision of your medical practitioner so they you do not open yourself to addiction. You do not want to add another problem to the one you already have.
There are preventive drugs which medical practitioners can prescribe. Many sufferers report that the dosage is inefficient to alleviate the pain. They are either not effective at all or they are not effective enough.
Many over the counter drugs are not effective enough if the pain is severe. Many sufferers can not afford to pay for triptans so physicians will have to prescribe something else.
You will have to keep going back to your physician until he can come up with something that does help you.
Be careful of certain drugs that you do not get addicted to them. Always discuss this factor with the physician.
