As we know, a huge percentage of the North American (specifically American) population is obese. The statistics are staggering, almost incomprehensible, and growing steadily. Obesity rates in youths are higher than ever before, and they are not being given proper role models from the generation above them to encourage leading a healthy lifestyle. Being overweight or obese can often be a puzzling distinction. What does overweight mean? How does one become obese? How do you go from one year being overweight, to the next being in that dreaded obesity category. Well, it all has to do with something called a BMI – that’s Body Mass Index to you – which measures the height to weight ratio of a person and comes out with a scale of distinction of what is a healthy level of body fat and what isn’t. There are probably many people we can think of who we believe are overweight, or maybe even obese, and this distinction is a question of risk within the person, not merely a classification or a stereotype.

Obesity, or a propensity to become overweight, can have many contributing factors apart from what is generally labeled to be the cause of any and all overweight people: laziness. Laziness and being overweight aren’t necessarily directly correlated, as there may be many other less obvious reasons for a person to have a high Body Mass Index including genetics, psychological status, and the environment. Of course, the main reason people put on too much weight is because of overeating, and that is why a drug such as Phentermine can be such a helpful thing for the person who, for whatever reason, can’t seem to appease their hunger. Phentermine suppresses appetite by controlling the hypothalamus, the gland in the brain which is responsible, among other things, for controlling a person’s appetite. This is something that a person can have little control of by means of their own will power, but which

can have a huge effect on the relative ease or difficulty of losing weight.

Of course, don’t just think that taking an appetite supressant such as Phentermine will automatically cure your obesity, and turn you into the next poster boy for a weight loss commercial, because the odds are pretty good that it won’t. You have to take the initiative yourself. Losing weight and having a healthier lifestyle don’t come about just by taking a trip to the doctor or the pharmacist, it starts the minute you get out of bed every morning. From the very first thing you eat in the morning, to the very last second you spend lying on the couch at night, you are the one responsible for doing what is good for your body or what is harmful. And the changes you want to make aren’t going to have to be big drastic life-altering things, they’re the little bits of effort you put into your day that snowball together over time towards a leaner and less destructive style of life due to easy weight loss. You may start by doing 25 sit-ups before you step into the shower in the morning, and in two months that may increase to 50, and two months after that you think 100 isn’t out of the question. Soon, you won’t be able to remember what your life was like before you got up and did 200 sit-ups before you ate your 100% bran flakes for breakfast and washed them down with a tall glass of freshly squeezed orange juice.

It may sound crazy now, but no matter how far you think you’ve gone on the side of being overweight, you can always move just a tiny bit more, eat just a tiny bit less, or take Phentermine to help you get started.
