0 Reviews [ add review ], Article rating : 0.00, 0 votes. Author : Kaye Bailey

During the winter holiday season it seems there is always plenty of turkey available for consumption. In fact, we may eat so much turkey we fear we will soon start to gobble. Though it may seem tedious, Weight Loss Surgery (WLS) patients take heart - this is one holiday staple in which we can indulge recklessly! Gastric bypass and lap-band weight loss surgery patients are encouraged to enjoy a diet rich in lean animal protein and low in processed carbohydrates. That great American bird, the turkey, fits the bill being lean protein, easily digestible and delicious.

Turkey is a fabulous low-fat high-protein nutrient-rich source for your LivingAfterWLS lifestyle. A 3-ounce serving of turkey is about the right

volume to fill the stomach pouch leaving a WLS patient satiated and comfortable. Here are a few things to consider about the bountiful bird:

3 Ounces of Roast Turkey (mix of light & dark meat) Contains:

  • 145 Calories
  • 25 grams protein
  • 4.2 grams fat
  • 23% daily value of Niacin
  • 20% daily value Vitamin B6
  • 17% daily value zinc
  • 11% daily value iron
  • I know there are tons of “disguise your leftover turkey” recipes out there. But you know, in a sentimental moment I’m willing to slice off three ounces from the turkey carcass, enjoy it plain and simple paying homage big bird! “Thank you turkey, for making me a lean-mean-healthy machine!”

    Enjoy those turkey leftovers!
