A world of endless opportunity opened up for the average person when the Personal Computer joined hands with the World Wide Web---big time! For the first time ever, the ordinary individual had full access to opportunities, tools, services, and resources that enabled him/her to establish and run an actual business right in the comfort of their own home. This phenomenon has revolutionized the employment landscape and challenged entrenched traditional models that had created the stereotyped images of the average worker which we had all come to accept.
The global marketplace was now a reality for anyone with an entrepreneurial spirit. Whole new industries sprang up, multi-million/billion-dollar companies were created right on the Web, and millionaire status became---and still is---a very viable and achievable goal for the home-based business person.
Today's world of buyouts, acquisitions, mergers, reorganizations, and downsizings has stripped away the security and financial stability that was once a given to the workforce of decades past. Consequently, more and more people are taking advantage of PC and Internet technology to put themselves in business to gain a security and financial status that was unavailable to them as an employee.
It is truly amazing what can be accomplished with a computer and an Internet connection. I haven't lost the awe of it; kids today take it all for granted---they haven't known anything else, but I can remember when computers practically filled up a room and boards had to be pulled out and rewired in order to change processing functions---big, bulky monsters---now they are available in sizes that fit in the palm of your hand!
Since you're reading this article, you are either an established home-business entrepreneur or you are wanting to become one. Accolades for both! We have found out that we are more talented and more skilled than our employers ever imagined. We have
the potential to pull in a monthly income that's the equivalent to the entire company payroll (assuming you work(ed) for an average-sized outfit). We no longer have to worry about sacrificing a chunk of take-home pay to fund a retirement plan that's going to provide a meager existence at best. We no longer have to fight debt anymore and debilitating monthly payments. We can buy that dream home and get the vehicles we want. We can provide for our families in a way we could only dream about before. We can actually enjoy what we do for a living because it doesn't own us---we own it. We have our own schedule and take as long as we want for lunch---and this two-weeks-vacation-a-year thing is history! No more clock-watching, piddly-if-any raises, aggravating commutes, unappreciated effort, office politics . . .
No, I'm not dreaming; it's a whole new way of life. When you make the decision to start your own home-based business, you have undertaken a noble task. You are to be commended. We welcome you to the growing ranks; there is much support here. Yes, it is a real business and there are things you have to do get it going and keep it running and make it grow, but it is no longer a JOB and it is rewarding beyond your wildest expectations.
This is the first in a series of articles on working from home; starting with the next one, I will get more specific and explore areas concerning Internet fact and fiction, legitimate business opportunities versus scams, starting from scratch or plugging into an existing system, products or services, and more.
