You are probably one of the many who assume that the reason doctors always seem to have smart children is entirely due to good genes. If this is what you think -- you are WRONG!
The answer is that doctors know three important things that most parents don't:
1. How babies' brains develop
2. The best age to teach babies
3. What special Development Activities make babies' brains smarter
The hundreds of millions of dollars spent each year worldwide by Universities, Governments, Medical Associations and similar Institutions show that:
* The first three years of life are the critical years for the development of learning abilities
* Children who start school smarter generally stay smarter for life
The US Department of Education recognizes the importance of "early education". They have issued an important publication which contains the following in its foreword:
"Years of research show clearly that children are more likely to succeed in learning when their families actively support them…Other than helping your children to grow up healthy and happy, the most important thing you can do for them is to help them develop their reading skills. It is no exaggeration to say that how well children learn to read affects directly not only how successful they are in school but how well they do throughout their lives. When children learn to read, they have the key that opens the door to all knowledge of the world. Without this key, many children are left behind…You and your family help to create this foundation by talking, listening and reading to your children every day…."
Unfortunately, many parents have the belief that it is not necessary to teach their children until they are nearing school age. This belief has been proven wrong and by the time a child is old enough to go to school, he may have missed out on the best period for learning.
The foreword to another excellent publication issued by the US Department of Education titled Helping Your Child Get Ready for School contains the following:
"…It's good that children ask questions: that's the best way to learn. All children have two wonderful resources for learning - imagination and curiosity. As a parent, you can awaken your children to the joy of learning by encouraging their imagination and curiosity…The first teachers are the parents both by example and conversation. But don't think of it as teaching. Think of it as fun…"
Note particularly the reference in the publication to "the first teachers are the parents".
It is critical that parents educate their babies from the day they are born so their brains develop properly during the optimal learning period from birth to three years of age. To demonstrate the point further, a publication by the acclaimed International Brain Academy explains:
* The brain consists of billions of neurons (brain cells) at birth.
* The use of these neurons differentiates a smart child from an average child.
* An increase in usage of these neurons creates better learning abilities.
Also, Thomas Armstrong in his publication Natural Genius of Kids points out:
"The good news is that there is much that a teacher or parent can do to help children reawaken their natural genius. First, and most importantly, adults need to reawaken their own natural genius-find within themselves the sourcewaters of their own creativity, vitality, playfulness, and wonder. For when children are surrounded by curious and creative adults, they have their own inner genius sparked into action. Second, adults need to provide simple activities to activate the genius of children. Something as simple as a story, a toy (Einstein said that a simple magnetic compass awakened his love of learning at the age of four), a visit to a special place, or a question, can unlock the gates to a child's love of learning."
The more stimulating and imaginative Development Activities you provide babies, the greater the neuron density network will be. This results in a smarter babies due to stimulated brain development.
The Development Activities parents need to introduce to their babies to make their babies smarter are many and varied and must stimulate the creative and imaginative senses of babies. These Development Activities include, for example:
* Constantly talking directly to babies while looking into their eyes.
* Reading appropriate story books to them in a way which intrigues them.
* Singing lullabies and humming regularly while holding them. This stimulates brain activity.
* Use of a variety of music.
* Parent participation in certain types of games.
* Organized rotation of toys.
The simple yet effective Development Activities enable children to:
* Be more advanced.
* Read better and earlier.
* Speak better.
* Have a larger vocabulary.
* Be more confident.
* Have higher self esteem.
* Bond better with family members.
* Generally lead a more successful life.
The quality of the worldwide research that is undertaken each year by institutions and authorities is excellent and the Development Activities like the examples above are well documented in many research papers and publications.
Raising children in a nurturing, positive and educational environment will enable them to gain the basic skills required to function properly as a child and as an adult. If the children are raised in the right environment, they will start school at a more advanced level than other children who are not. This advantage will remain with them throughout their school years and into their adult lives.
If this key learning period is missed, it will mean that the children who missed it will have to apply themselves much much harder than they otherwise would have had to do to succeed at the same rate as those who did not miss this window of opportunity.
The good news is that:
* The results are easy to achieve.
* Everyone is able to do it.
* Success is guaranteed.
* Babies love it.
* It requires minimal effort.
Stimulating the brain activity of children isn't necessary difficult but parents must learn the appropriate actions to take to assist their child becoming smarter, starting school smarter and staying smarter for life.
