Yo ho ho, and a bottle of rum is the cry of the pirates. Of course, rum is not what you want to serve at your child’s pirate party but what about a pirate party for adults? Try using these pirate party ideas for pirate decorations, games and party favors.

Though pirate parties are popular birthday party themes, there’s no reason your pirate party couldn’t be held any time, for any reason!

Party Ideas

First of all, consider the great decorations you can use for this pirate fest. Pinatas in the shape of tropical birds would make great party decorations as well as serve as a game later in the evening. You can fill your piñata with chocolate gold coins or perhaps a few more expensive treasures to encourage guests to get into the action. Plastic swords might be used not only for party props but also for the piñata game. Have a few eye patches ready for those who were too shy to wear a costume

but then want to get into the fun once they arrive.

Decorating for a pirate party can also involve treasure chests, buckets overflowing with iced beverages, palm fronds across door frames and tables covered in bright tropical colors or even the pirate flag of skull and cross bones. Food ideas can be roasted turkey legs, beverages served in frosty mugs, and fruit-filled watermelon boats. Having some sea going songs playing in the background along with sounds of Jimmy Buffet are other ideas for carrying out your theme.

Use good judgment about serving alcohol and recruit a few pirates or feisty “wenches” to serve as designated drivers if the need arises. When the party ends, you want to be 100% certain that everyone sails safely home.

John Lenaghan writes about party planning and other tips for the Party Ideas 4u website, where he provides valuable tips and advice about Halloween party ideas, birthday party ideas and other party planning topics.
