Here are some great Christmas craft ideas that could keep children occupied as they wait for the arrival of Santa and Christmas morning:

Popcorn Strings – This is a Christmas decoration that is cheap, fun and easy. Just start with a bowl of popped corn, get a thread and needle and string a bunch of the popped kernels together. This will provide you with old-fashioned tinsel you can string around your Christmas tree. For best results, use heavy duty thread and hot-air popped corn. You can also get creative and alternate cranberries or miniature marshmallows with the popcorn as you go. Tie a little knot around the first piece to create an anchor for the string and tie another knot around the last piece so the pieces won’t slip off of the ends.

Construction Paper Chains – This is a favorite Christmas craft notion that elementary schools nationwide have used for years. All you’ll need is some multi-colored construction paper, scissors and some paste. First, cut the paper into rectangles approximately 2 inches by 8 inches. You should be able to cut 5 or 6 of rectangles per sheet. Make a loop with the first rectangle and secure the ends with paste. Interlace the next rectangle through the

first loop and paste the ends together, alternating colors as you go. You’ll end up with a colorful paper chain of many colors to string around your Christmas tree.

Homemade Christmas Tree Ornaments – This is a fun way for kids to make their own personal Christmas ornaments. All you’ll need is some old holiday cards, a jar lid, construction paper, paste, ribbons, scissors and paper clips. Gather some of last year’s Christmas cards, choose some of your favorite scenes and cut them out of the old cards. Use the jar lid to trace a circle out of the construction paper, then cut out the circle and paste the scene into the middle. You can then punch a small hole into the top of the circle and run a piece of ribbon through it. Tie the ribbon to a paper clip and you can fashion a hook for hanging the decoration on your tree.

These fun Christmas craft ideas can teach your kids the joys of old fashioned activities that many children have enjoyed for generations.
