When it comes time to replace your roof, you have two basic options. The first option consists of laying a new roof over your preexisting roof. The second choice is to completely remove your roof and then install the new one. The best way to determine which method is most suited for your roofing need is to hire a professional roofer who can assess the condition of your roof. Roofing is a dangerous profession and many injuries can occur. Due to the safety concerns involved, it is always wise to hire a professional roofer for all of your roofing needs, even if you want to lay a new roof over an old one.

Not everyone can simply lay a new roof over a preexisting roof. To do this successfully your roof will need to meet certain conditions. You will also need to make sure that you can lay the new roof over the preexisting roof according to your local laws. One reason why

many roofers will recommend removing the original roof includes structural damage to the underlying layers, a roof that is so damaged that it will cause the new roof to have an uneven or warped appearance and damage to the underlayment. If any of these conditions are present your roofer will recommend removing the previous roof before installing the new one.

It may be more expensive to have the roof removed first but if the experienced roofing contractor recommends it, then you need to have it done. It is important not to try to remove the roof yourself as well. Not only is this a big project, but it can also be dangerous. Many homeowners become seriously injured when attempting to tackle roofing projects themselves. The best course of action is to have several estimates from local roofers that include the amount of removing the roof as well. This way you can determine exactly how much you should budget for your roofing project.
