Skilled jewel thieves swiped $800,000 worth of loose diamonds, high-end watches and other items after cutting through the walls of three vacant stores at a Route 4, NJ strip mall, police said.
"It appeared to be professional" and thoroughly planned, said Deputy Police Chief Richard Cary. "This wasn't just someone driving by."
The burglars entered the Mall at IV by cutting through an exterior wall of a vacant space that once housed a Pizzeria restaurant.
Once inside, they cut through two more vacant stores before breaching a wall that brought them to the safe, in the rear of the Paramus Jewelers Exchange. They then cut open the safe from behind and looted it without going near the dealers' floor, Cary said.
"I have never seen anything like this," he said. "It's like the movies."
Two Tann Cash safes TRTL30X6 were delivered from Megasafe to replace the broken safe, on Thursday.

"They should not have any problem sleeping at night "said Arik Gavrieli of Megasafe, in Little Ferry, NJ as he dropped them of."This is the top of the line."
Police are reviewing surveillance tapes from the strip mall, the jewelry store and other area stores, the deputy chief said.
"We're going to look at several days, if not weeks, worth of video to see we can identify anyone," he said.
Vendors remained shaken Thursday over the incident.
"Of course it affects us," said Aboud Kourieh, who has been a vendor at the exchange for 21 years. "We live like one family. We laugh and we cry together.
"Yesterday we were upset for [the jeweler burglarized] and did no business," Kourieh said.
