Earth Day began on April 22nd, 1970 as a grassroots demonstration on the environment inspired by Senator Gaylord Nelson. Ever since that inspiring effort was made humans are doing something good for planet earth on a daily basis .We still have people thinking that environmentalism just means being for clean air and clean water. Myself I would view it this way, breathing in the fresh clean goodness of an earth renewing itself makes me feel rejuvenated and grateful for all the TLC.
Does Earth Day, challenge each and every one of us to do our part for the planet's sake? You Bet!
All humans and animals do share one thing in common; we all have the earth as our home. It is our responsibility to take care of this home in the best way that we can. Although some things may be out of our control, such as the way the environment is treated for commercial interests, we can all take our part in making sure that we show some tender loving care in our own way. How can this be done? So maybe we can begin in our garden.
Most of us have gardens and it is one way of us enjoying our natural home and seeing what it produces. There are many different things that we can do when we are gardening to show our respect for the earth. For example, it is a common practice for people to use commercial fertilizers and insecticides in order to make their gardens beautiful. If you really think about it, however, this beauty is only skin deep. Although your garden maybe green and lush to look upon, on the inside it is really sick. Not
only does this affect the Earth and the environment in your general area, it also affects our family because we could be ingesting those poisons as well.
Organic gardening, even on a small scale can be rewarding in many ways - emotionally, environmentally, socially and it is self-satisfying.
There are also a lot of ways that we can show respect for our earthly home through the use of recycling. Recycling has increased, but so has trash generation. The landfill receives more garbage than ever before. So by placing the plastics, paper and glass in the recycling bins and putting them out to the curb every week, although this certainly does help. There are more ways that you can recycle various things to make sure that they don't end up in a landfill somewhere. A good example of this is lawn clippings. Did you realize that almost 20% of everything that is taken to municipal dumps every year is comprised of lawn waste? Wouldn't it be a much better idea if you bought a mulching lawnmower or composted the clippings and took good care of your lawn in a natural way? If you do this, you are preserving the environment in your area.
Yes, it may take a little bit of work on our part to show that we are giving this TLC to the Earth, but it is well worth the effort. Not only will it benefit us and our families by changing our immediate environment for the better, it will change the Earth, even if only to a small degree. Remember, the Earth is the only planet that we have, let's all be taking care of it. GardeniningTLC.com can enlighten you of ways to help the environment.
