Refrigerator is a cooling appliance used to store foodstuffs for longer period of time. Gone are the days when you used to get fresh fruits and vegetables easily. With the extensive development all the arable land is fast declining. Therefore in cities agricultural produce is transported from far away villages. Due to the time consumed in the transportation perishable goods lose their freshness and are prone to get rotten. Besides in the city not everyone has the time to purchase these on a daily basis. They buy foodstuffs for days or weeks together. Due to the increasing hustle bustle in the city life, people cook food for the entire day at once and then use them as and when needed. In such cases refrigeration or cooling is the easiest method of preservation.
This growing need has boosted the production and sales of refrigerators.
The direct cool and frost free are the two main types of refrigerators. In the former type of refrigerator everything is manual. Here the attainable freezer temperature is 10o Celsius. The benefit here is that it is economical and consumes less power. In the frost free type, the temperature controls are electronic while the defrosting and disposal process is automatic. Here the benefit is that there is uniform cooling. No ice or frost is formed besides it automatically defrosts and cools.
Each time with the improving innovations, refrigerators have been redesigned to suit all the growing needs of the customer. Due to the growing demand for aesthetics in refrigerators, innovations these days are not just restricted to scientific but have taken a detour and
have added aesthetics too into it. Today refrigerators are made available in many sizes, with versatile interior shelving and storage space. In the long run it is important to consider a model that will not only fit everything, but also makes everything easy to reach.
The capacity requirement of the refrigerator largely depends on the following:
a. Size of the family.
b. Food shopping frequency. If you are a weekend shopper, more space is required.
c. Type of food. You may need higher capacity for storage of non vegetarian foods.
d. Size of the utensil you use to store in the refrigerator. Bigger the utensil bigger the capacity.
Refrigerator is one of the appliances in your house that is always running. Therefore it is important to choose a model that is easy to clean and take care of. It is better to choose models with removable glass refrigerator shelves. This is because they are easier to clean in comparison to wires, besides they contain spills better. Some models even feature "spill-proof" glass shelves, which have a raised edge to contain the spill and keep it from dripping onto the shelves below.
There are a range of refrigerators manufacturers are available in market i.e. LG, whirlpool, Godrej, Samsung Refrigerators etc. Most of the refrigerators are frost-free, meaning that frost won't build up in the freezer. Another timesaving feature is the removable slide-out floor that makes it easier to reach items in the back of the compartment. This makes it easy to keeping the freezer clean and organized.
