A 10 Step Recipe to Get Great Sales copy (Part 1)

Your sales copy is by far the most important ingredient of your website/blog. If you walk into a shop/store then you will be greeted by a salesperson that will be able to sell you on the benefits of any product. In the online world you have to get these benefits over to the potential customer by other means.

You have to achieve this using the words on your sales page to make them feel welcome and convey your message to them. It is absolutely paramount that you get your message across in a way that will entice them to take you up on your offer.

Here are the first 5 steps to a recipe that you should use to help you achieve your aim of turning a customer into an avid buyer.

1: Your Unique Selling Proposition (USP)

Simple and self explanatory what makes your product stand out from the crowd.

For example; Give a cast iron guarantee that if the customer is not happy with the product then give them a refund. No arguments! Word will soon get around that your word/guarantee is sound. Believe me you do not want bad publicity as word will soon spread amongst the forums. Give this some serious though! Do not forget to emphasise your USP within your sales copy.

2: Speaks the Same Language as your target audience

Remember your niche/business will be full of people who speak in terms relevant to their needs.

For example; people who work in medicine will not talk the same way as say people who have an interest in fishing. Get to know inside out the way people express themselves within their niche/business.

3: A headline that makes them take notice.

People who surf are only going to look at your site for a few seconds so the headline will either keep them on your page or they will hit the back button. So tell them how you can help them.
4: Proof and Social Proof.

Firstly proof. You must show people that you know what you are talking about by proving that you are an expert in your chosen field.

This can be helped by social proof in that you have customer testimonials in your sales copy so that the potential customer can see you know your business and are trusted by other online marketers. It is a proven fact that customer testimonials can add as much as 200% to your bottom line.

5: Benefits, benefits, benefits!

In short you must leave the buyer in no doubt as to how he/she will benefits from purchasing your product. If this is not clear to them you will not make the sale.

The difference between a feature and a benefit is: A feature will tell them what the product can do. A benefit is how your product will help them to overcome a problem or solution. It's important that you make the distinction when your write your sales copy.

We will look at the last 5 steps at…
