To increase the site traffic you can have a system of delivering free email newsletter for your subscribers and potential subscribers. The costs involved are minimal and if executed properly then the paybacks are great and will result in increased pay subscribers for your site.

Email newsletters are also called ezines. It is a type of electronic direct mailer that you send to your customers. Email Newsletters work as a timely reminder to both the potential subscriber and the current customer about what your site or product it is offering. Through the newsletter you can inform the customer about the new products, new product features, new schemes, new company or site achievement or even a story about the company. This will help you to be in constant touch with your customers.

· Decide on the weekly delivery day for your Newsletter. Decide on particular days of the week to deliver the periodic newsletter. The customer waits for the newsletter on that particular day. If you have say Tuesday and Wednesday as the newsletter delivery days, then your site will have maximum visitors on those particular days, which indicates that a newsletter is a kind of reminder or a knock on the customers mind to visit your site.

· Decide on average length and style of the newsletter. It is important to keep the length of the newsletter short, because the audience or the reader looses interest in the content, if it is very long.

The style refers to the way your newsletter will be designed. Will it have a small teaser content in the mail, with a hyperlink to the main newsletter/article content on your website, or will you send the entire newsletter in the mail. Will the content be simple text or will it be in HTML format. Make sure what ever you choose should be supported by most people for example, HTML is not supported by many people's email.

· Jot down a few themes/issues that you could cover, in advance. For the periodic newsletter, you should have several choices for the issues and subjects that can be covered. If the themes for the newsletter are already there to be chosen from, there will be no last minute panic regarding the theme and the topic content that you will be writing on

All the visitors visiting your site may not get converted to the pay subscriber category, immediately. For such prospects you can offer a free newsletter for a limited time. This newsletter will serve the dual purpose of acting as a reminder to the prospect about your web site and /or the products and will also give some useful information on a topic related to your site/product, to the client.

You can have a trial run of the free email/ newsletter service. This will help you gauge the market for a subscription site, before you actually get caught into the cycle of 'pay for access' syndrome. Another way you can use the free newsletter, is for testing the new topics that you plan introducing to the websites. You could offer free subscription on a particular topic, till a particular number of registered users for that topic are reached, after which each new subscriber will have to pay a subscription fee for accessing that topic. While advertising for the new topics you could mention that free subscriptions are available only till a given time, after which all new subscribers will have to pay to access the website.
