How to help kids relax

Most of the people think that for children, life is very carefree, and they just have school to attend. But they fail to realize that children experience stress as well, and due to their small age, they find it difficult to cope up with it. So relaxation techniques for kids should be given the importance that it deserves. But one must stay away from professional aid in this regard. Mostly, children should be allowed to deep breathe as the basic exercise, since they are not mature enough to cope up with other techniques. A few techniques that can be followed include:

1. Simplicity:

When teaching kids about relaxing techniques, it is important to show it to them physically, rather than just saying how to do it. This will make the child appreciate the manner of doing it. So instead of asking them to deep breathe using the diaphragm, when they don’t know what a diaphragm is, you can ask them to imagine the smell of scent at a distance and try deep breathing. Also, parallels can be drawn with those sensations which they can relate to, like toys.

2. Breathing techniques:

Deep breathing is the easiest relaxation technique that can be taught to children. Show them how to get comfortable, and pose slow breathing as a challenge. Again,

it is important to relate everything to them with something which they have an attachment to.

3. It should be fun:

If simply the commands are given for them to follow, it will be boring for them, and they will hate it. So emphasis must be given on making the job interesting. You can give them some rewards like sweets or balloons when they successfully accomplish a task.

4. Techniques of visualization:

It is easier for a child, compared to an adult, to imagine a certain environment in which they feel comfortable or at ease. You can send them to a world of imagination. You may ask them to visualize that they are riding on the cloud. Then you can ask them to relate their experience with the present scenario.

5. Honesty:

Children can be young, but it doesn’t mean that they are stupid. It is necessary to give them a patient hearing if they talk about some issues which make them feel anxious. If they are given a patient hearing and their problems are addressed, they will be able to cope up well with the pressure.

These top 5 techniques are good for kids, and it should be remembered that they have their emotions as well, which needs to be addressed to. They are basically kids, so they need to be dealt with patience.
