The recent coal mining accident in West Virginia has claimed the lives of twelve of the thirteen coal miners. Many of these Coal Miners have long family histories of working in the mines in West Virginia, some for over 30 years. One was 61 years old and planning to retire next year.
This accident was a horrible tragedy indeed all the way up until the end when reports came out that one man’s body was found and the other twelve had moved to better air and might be alive, but their chances were marked slim to none as a hole was drilled in which showed the poisonous gas levels to be over three times the maximum that a human being could withstand for only 15-minutes.
Yet later the next day a report came back from somewhere that all 12 were found and all were alive, but one was unconscious. The families waiting for bad news in the local Baptist Church could not believe their ears when they heard the fortunate news. The jubilation and relief nearly caused the roof to collapse in the small church.
Unfortunately those reports turned out to be false and later called a “Miss Communication” by the Coal Mining Companies President. In fact the East Coast Editions of the USA Today and many newspapers across the country had already printed the story, when later in the wee hours of the night the truth came out. There were 11 dead and one unconscious plus the fellow who was learned to have perished the day before.
The President of the Coal Mining Company is “Mr. Hatfield” and the sole survivor is “Mr. McCoy” and since all the rest had perished the family fewd continues. Think on this in 2006.
