Some believe that since the Federal Aviation Administration is looking at imposing rules for Space Flight so early in the game that things must really be moving forward. And indeed many things are moving forward, but perhaps the best way to slow them down, impede progress and squander the energy of innovation and entrepreneurship is to have the G-Damn Government start making rules.
The Federal Aviation Administration has recently set forth a set of proposed rules for a 30-day hearing, which will cover such things as Commercial Space Flight. The FAA cannot seem to cover enough territory with their rules and regulations, now they think they can become the Star Fleet Federation of the Galaxy and make rules for the entire Universe? Typical bureaucrats and I suppose they will want more money too for all this BS and bureaucratic waste they purport to be able to enforce?
The new “Human Space Flight Requirements for Crew and Space Flight Participants” regulations being proposed has such requirements as training of crews and sets qualifications and probably “Type Ratings” for various types of space ships. Also proposed are “informed consent” disclosure rules for space tourists and spaceflight participants.
The FAA says that these rules focused on encouraging, facilitating, and promoting space tourism. May I ask when has the G-Damn government ever helped an industry by creating a barrage of rules and regulations? One thing is for certain once they make the first rule they have job security for the rest of their lives.
Although the current set of proposed rules will deal with such things as requiring that;
“any pilot or remote operator of a launch vehicle must have a valid FAA pilot's certificate,” is a no brainer, it seems we have the makings of another stifling of an infancy industry which will only hurt our future innovations. Another rule requires that companies, which launch a spacecraft have liability insurance? Well no kidding, but why do we need these rules now? Who invited the FAA, one of the most screwed up agencies in the United States to the future of Space Flight? Was it the word “Flight” that caught them? Because “Flight” means lift and you do not have lift in space, nor do most rockets use lift to propel them up. Therefore there is no such thing as “Space-Flight!” So, the FAA has no friggin business here. Think on this in 2006.
