What’s in a name? Well a lot during Hurricane Season, especially this record breaking 2005 Tropical Hurricane Season as we have run out of names this year and now we plunge deeper and deeper into the Greek Alphabet. Today we are on Hurricane Gamma, which is pronounced “gama” for those who do not know. Next up is Hurricane or tropical storm Delta and then tropical Hurricane Epsilon.
Tropical Hurricane Gamma is interesting in that it if forming near where Hurricane Wilma and Hurricane Beta formed, both late season storms. Gamma is projected to grow into a Hurricane although some think it might be blown apart by Northeasterly wind shear airflows, which is entirely possible. Yet as we watch this storm grow one has to ask themselves what about those flooded folks in the Grand Cayman Islands, on the Island of Jamaica or even in Western Cuba.
These islands, areas and regions have already received record amounts of torrential rains, flooding and/or mudslides. How much more can they take? Additionally as Gamma rounds the mountain and takes a hard right turn will it impact the United States or will it slam into Western Cuba? How many people will Hurricane Gamma kill and how much more can our Caribbean Islander neighbors take? Think on this.
