News and Society > New Orleans Prediction for Rebuilding in 2006

New Orleans will be rebuilt and already the President of the United States, George Bush has put forth a well-thought out proposal for 3.1 Billion dollars to rebuild the levee system there. Many wonder if this can be completed before the start or the 2006 Tropical Hurricane Season. Some say no way and others say it is possible, but highly improbable as nothing that government ever does gets done that fast.

The current predictions are that the rebuilding of the levees must be done in sections, with the weakest links being done first and should be completed if expedited by 2008, but more likely by 2010 with cost over runs not more than one billion smack-a-roos and that is without the typical graft and corruption notorious to those with French Ancestry. Many cynics say that your money is safer in the Oil-For-Food-Scandal with Chirac’s son than in the City of New Orleans.

Many of the areas buildings and most all the flooded homes are said to be a total loss due to the mold growth and the potential liability from “mold lawsuits” which is an ongoing trend in the building industry. As the local economy begins to come back online, contractors will be powering up and recruiting the labor they need to get all the work done that they have lined up now.

New Orleans will work completely thru 2006 and still not be fully rebuilt by the end of the year. But a good chunk of the work will get done and things may actually appear to be normal by mid November 2006, although hardly completed. Think on this.
