In 2005 we watched an alarming trend continue, one we all wish we did not have to watch; the increasing in area of the Ocean’s dead zones. These areas generally are occurring off the coasts of major human civilizations mostly due to over fishing, yet often also caused by pollution run-off, which is killing sea life and destroying the eco-system.

There are many dead zones off the coasts of the United States in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Massachusetts and Maine; also off the coasts of Miami, Houston Area, Fort Myers FL and Tampa Bay. But we are not alone, as the largest dead zone in the World is now off the coast of Shanghai and Beijing.

These ocean dead zones are all over the world and in 2005 they grew by more than 4-8% in size in many places. Many are simply over fished while others have succumb to industrial run off, human waste disposal and pollution. Some scientists are now predicting that the rate of extension of these dead zones may increase in 2006 by 3-4% again in some areas and in other areas where fishing has been limited and controlled some will retreat slightly.

When mankind puts forth an effort it appears that Nature is willing to rebound with greater strength and vigor. Some say the species in the regions are adapting, while others believe it is a combination of mankind controlling the waste and nature finding a way. No matter what we will see those areas which have decreased pollution and over fishing rebound and those dead zone regions where nothing is done expand. Think on this.
