“Do what you feel in your heart to be right, for you will be criticized anyway.” ~Anna Eleanor Roosevelt.
“I did it my way…” Don’t you love to hear Old Blue Eyes sing this song?
We have this preconception that when it comes to perform tasks we know better. Why do we have to always determine the way of doing things? We end up underestimating men. We need to stop criticizing them because they do things differently. If we ask them to do something, we should appreciate them doing it in the first place, and expect then to do it their way. If we want it done our way, we might as well do it ourselves.
Many women have a funny way of determining how to do things. If is not their way, it is the wrong way. My friend is one of these people. She has a certain way of clearing the table. After that, you need to put a decorative cloth on the table and a vase, no matter if it is empty or not. Now, both the cloth and the vase need to be following a specific direction. If you do it your way, she will jump at you. Imagine her husband, this great professional, great father, excellent person, having to do it as she says or nagging ensues. Please!
Another friend was very picky regarding how her husband dressed their toddler. One day, after spending sometime in the sand box, my friend Gina removed her boy’s shoes, to clean them up. She was horrified about the way the baby’s socks were put on him: all crumpled up. She was so mad, that she called her husband immediately to give him a big scold. Now, the guy is at work, dealing with other things; how do you suppose he took the call? Did they have an argument? I bet the argument went on in the evening as well, when he got back home.
A Word of Advice:
Ladies: It is obvious that our way is better; but we need to compromise and accept whatever manner they do things. After all, “vive la difference!”
Gents: Be adamant in telling that your way is as good as hers. Do not make concessions or she will lose respect for you.
