Did any one see Barbara Walters on Oprah pitching her new book?
Well if not let me summarize part of the buzz is that Barbara admits to a sexual affair with a former Congressman who was married and happened to be African American.
She said she kept it a secret until now to protect him but he has since passed away so she felt ok with telling the story…
Well Oprah asks or says something to Babs about being a mistress and Barbra gets offended and says she was not a mistress as she had her own money. Thus Barbra Walters re-defines Mistress to apparently exclude woman who make money or to include only poor women who should be called a mistress.
Oprah looked amused at first glancing at the crowd but then apparently agreed as she confessed to her affair with a married gent and stated that she was not a mistress either. I think they high-fived and got a cheer from the Oprah crowd.
So what exactly can we take from this exchange between 2 of the most influential woman of the last three if not four decades? Yes these two mavens of television and television news/entertainment celebrate the fact that they both were ADULTERERS or is it ADULTRESSES?
It must have felt very freeing for them to finally admit out loud that they were Home wreckers or is it house wreckers or marriage wreckers or perhaps family wreckers. And apparently this Oprah crowd
was a very supportive environment. Nonetheless what are we to make of this? Didn’t both these women excoriate Pres. Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinski,
Jim Baker and Jessica Hahn, Gary Hart and Donna Rice, Hugh Grant and his Hooker, Elliott Spitzer and his Escort, JFK and MLK and their cast of mistresses, Newt Gingrich and his mistress, Congressman Gary Condit and Chandra Levy etc…
You get the picture right? So what exactly is a mistress? Is an adultress a woman who needs the mans money or accepts his hospitality? If you have a good job and have your own money does that mean you can’t be a mistress?
What do I know?
But I will say one thing everybody hates a hypocrite right? Is there anything more offensive than having somebody who says and acts two totally different ways? Sure somebody who cashes in and preaches with a self righteous attitude and apppearance such as Spitzer and perhaps Oprah Barbra Baker Condit Clinton and Newt.
But come on high-fives and cheers from the audience about adultery by Women who represent the ultimate evolution of the modern woman? Very disapointing.
