Appreciation--------How do you feel when someone says that they appreciate you for something that you have done? Some people are embarrassed because they have not learned to appreciate themselves enough, but for most people it makes them feel good. Now imagine if there were “no currency” except for being able to express to someone how you felt when they did something for you--------you would really have to take time to connect with people to let them know how much you appreciated what they had just done for you. I think that this is one of the things that we are truly missing in the world today ----------- a sense of connection with others. As the world seems to get busier and busier we seem to lose our sense of appreciation and connection with each other. So, I will challenge you in this article to :
1. Appreciate something you have done or accomplished. After all, we can’t really appreciate others until we can appreciate ourselves. Find something on a daily basis that you appreciate about yourself and speak it out loud to yourself in the mirror. Start or end your day this way, and it will definitely help you through the tough times. We all tend to highlight the things we have done wrong without remembering the many things that we do right.
2. Make a conscious effort this week to let people know how much you appreciate them. See how many people who are in your lives daily, you can let know how much you appreciate them.
Here is a great exercise for you to do with a loved one or a child. Have them sit in a chair (in the middle of the room or you will bump into a wall---ha!ha!), and walk around them
making contact with them with your eyes when you are in front of them, and just lightly touching their shoulders when you go behind them. Say as many things as you can think of that you appreciate about that person. After you are complete and if you really want to make it a memorable event, jump up and down like a cheerleader----cheering their name (then send me a video, so I can have the joy of seeing you go crazy----just kidding!!)
