We love spas. I’m talking, love them. The look. The feel.
The smell. The yummy food. The pampering. The attention
to detail. Ahhh – what if there was a way to make every day
like a spa day? What spa elements could you introduce to
your everyday life that could bring about a more spa like
feel? Here are some ideas:
The look
Spas always look great. Whether it is a five star hotel or
a rustic relax in the woods get a way, they are
aesthetically pleasing. Looking around your environment at
home, work, or any place you spend time, does it reflect the
look that you prefer? What small (or large) tweaks can you
make to bring your surroundings in alignment with who you
are?
The feel
You know that feeling you have when at a spa – the one where
you are relaxed and calm? Brainstorming about how to get
that daily leads me to think about: getting a massage,
asking for help, taking the day off, delegating,
acknowledging you and someone you know for a job well done,
contributing to a charity, watching a movie, eating ice
cream, taking the dog for a walk, reading to a loved one.
What other ways can you come up with that will foster the
feeling that all is well?
The smell
Many spas have an official scent that they use for their
lotions, bath products, and the like. Do you have an
official smell? Perhaps you can make one using potpourri,
or picking a favorite perfume, or using a certain dish
liquid when washing the dishes. Smells are very powerful,
and can instantly transport you back to that feeling of calm
you get at a spa. Maybe it’s time to order that spa scented
lotion you like so much?
The food
Nourishing our bodies can be an adventure. Instead of just
getting fed, how can you introduce tasty, good for ‘ya food
into your everyday? Some ideas are to take a cooking class,
hire a private chef, order out, alternate dinners with
friends, buy cookbooks or get them from the library, ask
your Grandma for her favorite recipes, learn hands on from
someone whose cooking you enjoy. Food is such a large part
of your life – might as well enjoy it! What are you having
for your next meal?
The pampering
Your every need catered to; imagine the ease and simplicity
that could bring. What are your favorite pampering fantasies, and how can you make them, or the essence of them, a reality? Perhaps your husband/wife could prepare dinner and wait on you. Or you could have a mini-spa day at home with your friends and bring in people to pamper you with food, drinks, body treatments, palm fanning, grape peeling – the works. On a budget you could
even find others who want the same thing and trade your
services on a regular basis – I’ll give you a manicure on
Tuesdays if you’ll cook dinner for me on Fridays – that sort
of thing. Think of one way you can pamper yourself this
week and schedule it on the calendar. Then write and let us
know what it was and how it felt!
The attention to detail
How fabulous to know that everything is taken care of – the
pillows plumped, the bed turned down, the place tidy. This can be practically applied to all areas of your life, big and small. Big areas – reconciling with another person,
hiring an assistant, rearranging the furniture in the house
and buying what you need and releasing the rest, getting a
maid, changing jobs. Small areas – taking one action on
that “to do” list, cleaning out the garage, decluttering the
desk, reading the mail, balancing the checkbook. Attention
to even the littlest of items can yield great rewards in
your overall life by making each day run more smoothly and
easily. What small detail can you act on right now?
