Self Improvement > I Deserve An Award

Many humans go through life and excel at various things and collect many awards. Often when we read people’s resumes we are humbled by all the awards and luckily or unluckily we may have been a recipients of awards, commendations and plaques during our careers. But what does it all really mean?

Well recently on an application to a think thank, I was reading down the list of the many subjects of interest of a potential candidate. Under the awards and commendations section, I had to laugh, as the comment regarding awards read; "Sadly I have none."

Are we to be saddened if we have not yet received awards for our endeavors?

Well to that I say that generally humans and human organizations give awards to make themselves or their groups look better and give them status. After all they are saying they are worthy enough to be the judge, rather than the achiever who has done something.

Now then the recipient gets some status, but indeed even in receiving such status or achievement immediately becomes a double-edged sword. You see as a group, society or media builds an individual up; there is a human innate characteristic of Jealousy building in others who due to low cranial capacity move to attack those on that pedestal.

There are numerous examples exist if you think on this. Look at the recent attacks on the Character of Lance Armstrong and those calling him a cheater for using steroid type drugs? So whereas; just because one has not yet amassed a huge number of awards that does not mean they are not already earned or deserved. Indeed the person worthy of such awards but has not yet received them may have an advantage. You see not having them gives you more traction and that means less arrows coming your way. Think on this.
