Not many of us have time for the gym, especially when there’s cleaning to be done. But did you know that you can slim down, keep your house clean, and avoid paying that expensive gym membership without even leaving the house?

If your body is as bulky as your towel cupboard, and you don’t have the time to exercise, don’t panic! Cleaning can be good for the mind as well as keeping you trim by burning off a few calories and toning muscles, here’s how…

Wash that junk right out of your hair…

We all have drawers and cupboards that we put off opening, but now is your chance. Get rid of anything you feel you are hoarding, if you have forgotten that you had it, the chances are you don’t need it.

Separate the junk…

Don’t keep anything for the sake of it. Someone else might be able to use it, give it away or sell it and make a bit of extra money as a reward for all your effort.

Organise your mind…

Now you’ve got rid of the junk, you can take a step back and evaluate the situation, where to start.

These three steps are important to de-clutter your mind as well as your cupboards. Once you are relaxed and have a

clear head, the cleaning and calorie burning can really begin.

DIY and cleaning exercises muscles, increases stamina and suppleness, and is great for your home!

For that extra incentive, look at what you will burn doing your household chores and improvements.

Cupboard sorting – 270 calories per hour

Scrubbing your bathroom floor – 375 calories per hour

Vacuuming your bathroom floor – 300 to 450 calories per hour

A useful tip is to vacuum and then scrub your bathroom floor, not only does it ensure optimum cleanliness but you can almost double the calories that you will burn!

Washing your bathroom windows – 150 to 250 calories per hour

Dusting your bathroom – 270 calories per hour

Painting – 200 calories per 30 minutes

Wallpapering – 150 per 30 minutes

Wallpapering exercises your shoulders, where as hammering and sawing will work your biceps, triceps and forearms.

You can now have the first of many baths as the new, relaxed, fitter you. Wear that gorgeous outfit you found in the back of your wardrobe, and spray on some of the perfume you lost last Christmas.

More importantly, don’t begrudge doing your house work; it’s a necessity and great for your health and fitness.
