Throughout one's training as a physician there is a high priority on being perfect in everything that one does. It's ironic then that this very issue often leaves many physicians feeling less than perfect.
Less than perfect because there are so many variables that a physician deals with each and every day that are uncertain or unknown and which he/she can never really get a firm handle on.
Trying to be perfect then in such an uncertain, and often chaotic, environment breeds deep feelings of inadequacy and a fear that one’s inadequacy will be exposed to the rest of the world.
As I have mentioned in another article, shame is also associated with these feelings of inadequacy. When feelings of inadequacy arise what happens to the physician?
Well if we look at the external and internal environments that the physician lives in I think this will become clear.
The external environment consists of the endless expectations placed on them by patients, licensing bodies, courts, peers, insurance companies, governments etc. to be perfect and flawless. Under such scrutiny such a physician might begin to become reclusive or even mildly paranoid.
The internal environment consists of one's deeply held and often harsh standards to be perfect at all costs. The emotional cost of feeling imperfect or feeling inadequate are often feelings of depression, self loathing, self abuse, and even suicide. Its as if the feelings of inadequacy threaten the very survival of the individual.
All of this is driven by an even deeper fear, that of having one's inadequacy exposed. For many this is so deeply held that they don't even know it is there driving their behavior.
This behavior is such that it makes the physician untrusting of others, reclusive, mildly or flagrantly paranoid, and thus leaves them feeling alone, isolated, hurting, helpless and at serious risk of decompensating further. When it goes too far suicide is sometimes seen as the only answer. Hence the higher suicide rates among physicians than in the general population.
So some of the culprits here are: feelings of inadequacy, the need to be perfect, fear of being imperfect, and the fear of being exposed.
All of these, if you harbor any of them within you are clearly toxic are they not? If you're not sure just focus on one of them and notice how you feel inside as you do.
I think you will immediately feel like your energy is being drained, trapped, helpless, overburdened, anxious, sad, perhaps depressed and others.
What you have just experienced then is an example of the toxic effect of these living within you.
I would like you to know that it is not only unnecessary to have any of these inside of you but that a) they can be quickly and easily released, b) that by doing so you will reclaim enormous amounts of life energy, resilience, motivation, a sense freedom, greater joy and contentment and c) that it will improve you ability to function in ways you never thought possible.
All of this is possible with a new modality called the Mind Resonance Process(TM) (MRP). If you'd like to know more about MRP kindly visit the web link below where you can download free an interactive audio clip on MRP.
