Self Improvement article : Remembering Your True Self

Self Improvement > Remembering Your True Self

Have you ever wondered who you really are? When you were a kid you suspected something. You knew then that you were destined to be a hero, royalty, brilliant. The world today has become wild with possibilities and that inkling you had as a child – well that was the truth. Unfortunately, as we grew we began to believe everything that was coming at us instead of holding on to that which was coming from within us. We doubted and we forgot.

Experiment with me for just a moment. Let yourself be young and unencumbered. Repeat out loud to yourself, “I am of great worth. I will make a difference. I am grateful to have a purpose.” Did you feel a tingle, a shiver of delight as you said it? The part of you that resonates to this statement, that special part of you that rises up as if it were being called, that is

your true self.

For some time I was being eaten alive by such thoughts as, ‘I’m not smart, I’m not attractive, I am worthless.’ It made me miserable. And I believe the reason such thoughts make us so miserable is the fact that they are untruths. That voice in your head is not your true self. Deep down we know this, but we are afraid to challenge the voice and give ourselves permission to be great. If those things were really true they wouldn’t be so troubling and they wouldn’t feel so horrible. We wouldn’t be fighting them off all the time or continue to need re-convincing.

An Indian story tells of two wolves fighting inside us, one positive and the other negative, truth and untruth. If you want to know which one will win, pay attention to which one you’ve been feeding.
