Spirituality article : Automatic Writing

Automatic writing can be in the form of script writing or pictures. Very often the writing is unreadable, yet sometimes the writer is able to understand what is written or the message behind what is written.

Automatic writing is a lot like using the Ouija board because it basically works the same way. In both automatic writing and the Ouija board, there is a mechanical device (a pen or a board with letters and numbers with a device such as a wine glass that moves across the board) that is used as a tool to receive messages from your spirit guide or your subconscious mind.

One way of getting in touch with your spirit guide or the higher self through automatic writing is to get comfortable at your computer or with a piece of paper and a pen. Be sure to relax and clear you mind. Some people feel using the computer is better because some feel it is easier to type than to write and takes less time. If at the computer, place you finger on the keyboard lightly. You may want to type the date first.

Mentally, call one of your guides or if not known, a guide and type Hello, what’s your name? Then sit quietly at the computer. It may be useful to look away from your computer and to simply type whatever comes to mind. This may seem like your thoughts at first, but with practice, you will soon be able to tell what your thoughts are and what thoughts are coming into you, kind of like a radio receiver. Always start with simple questions that just require a yes or no answer. Don’t stop to think and try to keep excess chatter thoughts at bay. Focus in on the question and your guide.

It may be surprising, but after a few minutes, you may find yourself typing away. Don’t think that the writing is going to be grammatically correct. The words may be stuck together with no punctuation and typos may be numerous. This is something you can attempt to decipher later and is not important so don’t try to correct. The spirit world or the subconscious will often try to get messages out as fast as they can and may not be coherent at the time. This is much like dreams, which are often messages from our spirit or subconscious self and are often incoherent and abstract. Think of it as a code, a kind of cryptogram that needs to be interpreted.
