In today’s world, we are so busy doing other things,(working, socializing, partying, etc.) do we find time to listen to what God is saying? With new electronic devices of today, we even place them directly in our ears. Daily noise has invaded our minds, with everything from a car horn, music, pagers, beepers, cell phone talkers, etc. Some say God speaks in a whisper to us. If God was talking to us, will we be able to hear him? Others say that God is a Spirit and it don’t talk. Well let’s see what the Bible says about this. First Look at Deuteronomy 30:19 it says This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Look at 1Samuel 3:9 it says So Eli told Samuel, Go lie down, and if he calls you, say, Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening. So Samuel went and lay down in his place. The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the others times, Samuel! Samuel! Then Samuel said, Speak, for your servant is listening.

Now look at Job 38:1 The Lord Speaks, it says Then the Lord answered Job out of the storm. He said; Who is this that darkens my counsel with words without knowledge? Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me.

Look at Proverbs 1:1 Prologue: purpose and theme. The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel; for attaining wisdom and discipline; for understanding words of insight; for acquiring a disciplined and prudent life, doing what is right and just and fair; for giving prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young-—let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance—for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

Now look

at Proverbs 12:15 it says The way of a fool seems right to him, but a wise man listens to advice. A fool shows his annoyance at once, but a prudent man overlooks an insult. Now look at Proverbs 18:13 it says He who answers before listening—that is his folly and his shame. A man’s spirit sustains him in sickness, but a crushed spirit who can bear?

Look at John 10:25 it says Jesus answered, “I did tell you, but you do not believe. The miracles I do in my Father’s name speak for me, but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. My sheep listed to my voice; I know them, and they follow me, I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”

In closing look at James 1:19 it says My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. Therefore get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.

Do not merely listen to the word and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does.

If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
