God gives us 24 hours a day and we fill it to the brim with activities, work and chores with little time left over for God – the giver of time. How can we spend more time with him today and throughout the year?
Five Steps to more Time with God
1.Wake up
It is as simple as waking up. You don’t have to wake up at 3:00am each morning but you do have to wake up. Waking up just 10 minutes earlier each day will give you the time needed to commune with God.
2.Read
Start out with baby steps. If you try to eat an Elephant in one bite you’ll probably choke. Read one chapter from the Bible each day. This is a tool that the 12 Tribes of Israel use. Read even if you don’t understand the passage fully it’s the habit of reading that is most important right now. Let God take care of teaching your Spirit.
3.Pray
Start each day with a few minutes of prayer. It will aide you in staying calm in traffic, give you patience in dealing with your children, and strength for valleys that are sure to come. Remember your family by name – husband and children.
4.Worship
We are commanded to worship God with all our heart, mind, soul, and body. Let’s spend some time singing a song with thanksgiving to the Lord. It doesn’t matter that you can’t carry a note because your voice is angelic to his ears when worshipping from your heart. Worship can also be a time of meditation. Think on a quality of God such as Kindness. The key to worship is to Glory in the presence of God.
5.Listen
Throughout the day train yourself to listen to the Spirit of God. Do you need to help someone? Does someone need prayer? Does someone need a hug, a smile, or an act of kindness? Practice listening each day to what the Spirit of God would have you do before you know it you won’t have to question “Is that you God?”.
Now that you have a tangible list of things to do each day spend some time with God. As you grow in your relationship with God you’ll find quite accidentally that you are spending more and more time with Him. Keep drawing close to God and He will draw close to you.
