"I've seen many troubles in my time, only half of which ever came true." Mark Twain

Mark Twain’s quote is so true for a lot of people. We worry about things that never happen. Worrying about issues unnecessarily can cause both psychological and physical distress. A lot of times, what we worry about never come true.

When you find yourself worrying, ask yourself, "Can I do anything about it?" If you can, then take the required action to eliminate the worry. If you can't do anything about it, or if it is beyond your control, then don't waste your time worrying!

When you worry, you are not focused on solutions. You are allowing unproductive negative thinking to overrule your positive thinking. Worrying never leads to any productive results, it only reinforces the negative.

A few years ago, when I found myself worrying about a situation which was causing me stress. A friend of mine asked me the question below, "Will this matter in 5 years from now?". That question has stayed with me over the years, and when I find myself stressed or worrying about an issue, I think of the question below:

"Will this matter in 5 years from now?"

If yes, then do something about the situation. If no, then let it go.

A simple but very effective way to lower your stress! The only thing you will ever accomplish by worrying is to elevate your stress level.
