Welcome to Siberia to watch the total solar eclipse 01 Aug 2008. The old Russian city of Barnaul, located at the bank of the great Siberian Ob River, offers comfortable accommodation, the best conditions for the observation as well as a chance to touch to local culture and lifestyle in Siberia.
If to look along the shadow line, the best local circumstances for the observation seem to be found just in the Novosibirsk - Barnaul - Gorny Altai area. The duration is longer (2 min 15 sec - 2 min 20 sec) and the Sun is higher (290 - 300) in comparison to Mongolia and China (http://www.clocktower.demon.co.uk/eclipse2008t/localcentral.htm). Itinerary
Day 1 (30.07.2008). Lately in the evening - night flight (4 h) from Moscow for Barnaul.
Day 2 (31.07.2008). Early arrival in Barnaul. Accommodation in hotel 3*. Relaxation. Lunch. Cruise by motor ship along the Ob River. Visiting Museum of Local Lore. Overnight in hotel. (BL)
Day 3 (01.08.2008). City tour of Barnaul. Introductory lecture about the Eclipse in
local planetaruim. Transfer ( 30 km) to the central line of Eclipse. Observation of Solar Eclipse (around 16:45-18:50; duration 2 min 16 sec). Return to Barnaul. Overnight in hotel. (BL)
Day 4 (02.08.2008). Early morning transfer to the airport. Flight Barnaul – Moscow. (B)
