There are four seasons in which you can choose to walk down the aisle and although it might be “typical” to tie the knot in summer there could be a million and one reasons why you might not.
There might be many different reasons why you might choose to hold a wedding in April, or October, or even January. So here are some ideas on how to put together an inspired wedding that reflects the season – no matter the time of year.
Spring
Gardens are blooming, baby birds are chirping and the earth is breathing with new life and energy. We and the world around us are coming out from a long deep sleep and are ready to stretch our limbs and enjoy a bit of extra activity. Think fresh, light, inspiring and re-energized.
Colour Theme: White, yellow, pink, purple or blue, especially pastel shades.
Reception décor: Fairy lights, candles, petals, bubbles, feathers, confetti, small birds, nests, colourful eggs, birch branches with young light green leaves and fresh herbs.
Music: Light, classical and airy.
Flowers: Tulips, daffodils, sweetheart roses, jasmine, peony, lily of the valley, freesia or blue iris.
Cake: Yellow, blue or pastel colours, decorated with fresh flowers, crystals or fruits.
Menu: Light starter, chicken, salads, bruschetta and mousse-type desserts with fruits.
Summer
Imagine trees with thick green leaves, bright flowers in the grass, picnics by the water, and cocktails on the deck. Nature is filled with passion, mid-afternoon heat and sunlit brightness.
Colour Theme: Orange, gold, red, hot pink, purple, green colours bursting with vibrancy.
Reception décor: Glitter, candles, seasonal flowers, light pale tents, vases with multicolour candies and fountains - anything with life in it.
Music: Blissful and festival.
Flowers: Roses, chrysanthemums, lilies, daisies, carnations, delphiniums, magnolias.
Cake: White or strong bright colours.
Menu: Green
or fruit salads, grilled fish or beef, canapés and ice cream.
Fall
Fall brings maple trees bedecked in colours of orange and red, as nature releases a final burst of energy before cold temperatures arrive. There is a crisp feeling in the air.
Colour Theme: Yellow, orange, gold, and red.
Reception décor: Candles, fall-colour leaves, acorns and berries, coppers and fruits.
Music: Modern-day classical.
Flowers: Roses, sunflowers, iris, gerbera.
Cake: Daring chocolate or white decorated with maple tree leaves.
Menu: Pastas, pirogues, chicken, spicy pork or lamb with fresh herbs, vegetable cocktails and desserts with seasonal berries.
Winter
Picture a small village in the mountains, covered in a blanket of snow, which sparkles and comes alive in the sunshine; calm, peaceful, friendly. This is your chance to create a snow-white wedding - your icy wonderland.
Colour Theme: White, silver and ruby.
Reception décor: Crystals, feathers, fairy lights, ice or glass sculptures, sparkling stars, warm crackling fires, metal confetti and floating candles.
Music: Classical for the ceremony.
Flowers: White lilies, ferns, chrysanthemums, orchids, white roses, white gerbera, calla lilies.
Cake: White with a heavy and full look – decorative icing techniques.
Menu: Hot soups, roasts, fondues, warm desserts and apple cider with cinnamon sticks.
Whether season you choose early pastel green spring, pumpkin-coloured fall, flourishing hot summer or icy winter do not loose the opportunity of using nature’s background to your grand advantage.
