Some of us thought that when we graduated from high school, we would no longer be required to sit in classes for any more days of our lives. Others of us went on to college, sure that this would be the end of our education days. No. Once we entered a profession, we realized that if we wanted to keep up and grow in our careers, or even in our hobbies, we were going to need adult education classes.
Adult education may take the form of advanced degrees, online classes or continuing the education credits that are required to maintain a license or certification. Of course, we may also choose to learn to quilt or salsa dance or scuba dive. Some of us want to improve our relationships or our cash flow, so we attend workshops and seminars.
Not all adult education is classroom based. Now we can earn our masters and doctorates with online degree programs. If you want to earn a degree to advance your career, check out directoryofonlineschools.com or
worldwedelearn.com. You can also look at specific schools such as the University of Phoenix or the online branch of your local university. University of Phoenix offers a wide variety of courses for certifications and degrees that we need as adults. Often local colleges and universities have a whole department devoted to adult learning.
Local newssheets provide advertisements for adult learning centers, too. You can also Google phrases like “free university” or “adult education” and the name of your city or state to bring up local listings. If there is a specific course you want to take, Google it. You will find resources for every subject, skill and topic you can think of from ant farming to zither lessons.
School never ends, but that’s a good thing. If we never learned anything new, life would become pretty boring.
